In addition to the completion of a bunch of collage pieces, last week was capped with a big, beautiful shipment of paper rolls destined for the vast middle gallery at EMP.
(So purty!) Afterwards, Nolan (Cartwright, EMP member and tech manager extraordinaire) and I hit up the Home Depot on Friday for what will assuredly go down in the annals of the most efficient big box home improvement store purchases ever. (This was mostly due to Nolan’s fascinatingly complete knowledge of the contents of every nook and cranny of the Eastern Ave. Home Depot.)
On Monday, I started color blocking the paper to create a surface for drawing and, later, collaging.
Once I’d constructed this preliminary surface, I got to begin the first layer of freehand drawing. This stage is really physical (lots of ladder climbing and drawing with your whole body) and a lot of fun.
I’m at a point where I can clearly visualize and palpably feel how the piece will work in the space – which is incredibly energizing and exciting. The next week and a half is going to be intense. Only 10 days until the opening!
